Chapter IV is now live. The story narrows here.
What began as separate paths is forced together by wind, stone, and the desert’s refusal to remain indifferent. Shelter becomes a threshold. Names are spoken. One is misplaced. The ground accepts the choice and closes behind it.
-
The desert threw a tantrum sometimes, determined to grind the skin and muscle away from the bones of some poor creature. Wind screamed over the stone, and sand rose like surf, stripping the world down to motion and noise. It was not cruel. It was simply thorough, and it did not care who had meant to pass through alive.
-
Here, the world ceases to remain passive. Movement has consequence. Return is no longer assumed.
